Carver, Hawke’s warrior brother, has a similar setup, but he at least has some autonomy and drama in his branching paths. Bethany, meanwhile, is pretty much dragged through the story, with BioWare separating or killing every member of a family in a game ostensibly about familial ties. Bethany is comparatively sweet and understanding whereas her brother is decidedly neither of those things, but BioWare gave her nothing to work with.

If you let Aveline take the lead in the conversation with Jeven then you will increase your freidnship. If you are dominant in the conversation then you will increase your rivalry.
At 50% friendship or rivalry a special ability will unlock dragon age 2 companions on the specialization talent tree, unique to the relevant companion (except for Bethany or Carver, who use the Force Mage and Templar specializations instead).
This unique ability is not required for the other skills in the tree; you Perro freely take any of them you wish prior contact me to the 50% mark.
It is possible to sleep with all romantic companions, except Sebastian, in a single game. Sleeping with any of the companions does not prevent the development of other romances. However asking either Anders or Merrill to move in after sleeping with them will deactivate the romance flags of all other characters, and remove critical flirt lines from their dialogue.
